Say ‘Namaste’ to Maya. May is a street-seller in Thamel, the tourist area of Kathmandu. We met her many years ago when she approached us with her armfuls of brightly coloured purses and bags. The first time, like all tourists do, and sellers expect, we haggled and bought just a few bags for our own family. Having been Scouters – Ian was Baloo and I was Akala, we are very aware of the brilliant organisation it is, and of all the good it does for others too, so when Nirmala Strestha, a teacher we knew from our work with Shree Krishna Devi Primary school in Kodari, Sindapulchowk.
